Our Philosophy

Pregnancy and birth are such raw, natural and magical processes that should be honored and respected. We trust that the birthing person’s body knows intuitively how to grow and birth a healthy baby. The birthing person has options and should feel empowered in their decision making process. We know birth works best when left as undisturbed as possible. A person who feels safe and comforted will birth with more ease on their body and mind. Birth is a big deal, and it should be respected as one.

What is a midwife?

A “licensed midwife" is an individual who has been issued a license to practice midwifery by the Medical Board of California. The practice of midwifery authorizes the licensee to attend cases of normal pregnancy and childbirth, and to provide prenatal, intrapartum, and postpartum care, including family-planning care, for the mother, and immediate care (first 6 weeks) for the newborn. The practice of midwifery constitutes the furthering or undertaking by any licensed midwife to assist a woman in childbirth as long as progress meets criteria accepted as normal.
